Visa Requirements and Process – the process though is super simple it is too lengthy, you will have apply through travel agent with following documents:
I was also requested to submit KCCI of my employer.
Processing time is 4 to 6 week, mine came on 30th day,Validity is 90 Day and the 14 days stay was allowed.
Visa fee was 25 USD, however travel agent’s fee is separate and varies.
Please keep in mind, Sharam Al Sheikh has visa free policy for up to 15 days provided that you stay in the resort only; and Yes, Sharam Al Shiekh is in Egypt (here’s a shortcut to tick it off your bucket list)
Traveling to Egypt – Air Arabia is your best bet in terms of pricing as its approximately PKR 80,000 from Karachi, the option is Etihad and Emirates, (I went from Doha, and booked Kuwait Airways which was cheapest option with long wait).
Customs and Immigration – Immigration was simple with basic question like purpose, duration and next destination. However my journey to Egypt had a little hiccup as my visa came with the famous “SS” – (if you don’t know what it is, its a security check before boarding), I was asked couple of questions and in about 5 minutes was let go at the Qatar Airport from where I was flying to Egypt.

Food – Egyptian food is a hearty combination of middle eastern countries and African food. While there is a wide spread of food choices, pulses and vegetable rule alongside the cheese and olive. Koshari at Khan El Khalil Market is a must try (its history is even more fascinating) along with Ta’amiyya (Egyptian Falafels), Roasted Eggplants and Baba Ghanouj.
Transactions – Card works, however Cash is still the mostly used mode.
Intercity Travel – Uber and Careem works in Cairo however our pricey, taxis are super common in Cairo but for other cities you need a car.

Hotels: I booked all my hotels via booking.com i.e. Cairo, Aswan and Luxor. My hotel in Cairo had an amazing view of Pyramids, there are many such options at booking.com
Tours: I booked my tours with a local tour company – Egypt tailor made. I sent them my itinerary and worked out accordingly.
Safety – I traveled as a Solo Female and found it to be generally okay however be conscious of pick pocketers and cat calling.

Egyptians speak Arabic as their main language. English is common in urban areas and communicable is common within travel industries, still following might help both with communication and community building:

for ease, download “Arabic” in the Google Translate and you’re good to go! Also, since Egypt is a Muslim country the common greeting is Asalam O Alaikum السلام عليكم, (for added information, this means “peace be upon you”) – use it if you would like to 🙂

Not so Popular Opinion – Aswan was my favorite, I liked it more than Cairo.
Offbeat Experiences – Do more than just pyramids, learn how papers where made from Papyrus, See an Evening Light Show at Luxor, Ride a traditional boat in Aswan.
Fun Fact – I got pickpocketed in Abu Simble!
Pro tip for architects – You are going to love Egypt, there is so much to learn from it, focus on both old and new architecture.
